Course Duration: Two months, from June 14, 2026 to August 14, 2026 – (30 training hours) (3.75 hours per week)

Instructor: Artist Mohammad Saleh Khalil

Instructor Biography:
Mohammad Saleh Khalil completed his Master's degree in 1988 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany. After graduating, he returned to Damascus where he held his first exhibition, then moved to Nicosia to work for 5 years. Through his artistic experiences there, he developed his own artistic style and held several solo and group exhibitions. Following the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1994, Khalil decided it was time to return to his homeland, Palestine. Since then, he has participated in numerous art exhibitions inside and outside Palestine and won many awards. His most valued award is the Jury Prize from the Alexandria Biennale in 2000. In 2002, together with a number of artists, he founded the "Visual Arts Forum" (formerly the Young Artists Forum) with the aim of teaching fine art, attracting and nurturing amateurs, and promoting visual arts as a tool to strengthen Palestinian identity and as a means of expression, change, and free thought. Khalil still resides in Palestine, and is currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Art, Music, and Design at Birzeit University, and continues to teach arts at the Visual Arts Forum.

Course Description

For every talented person or anyone interested in learning professional portrait drawing, who has the passion to experience producing drawings and paintings using pencil and acrylic colors – whether young adult, youth, or adult. The course suits both advanced learners and beginners in drawing. You will learn to draw the face from different angles with all the details, based on the study of anatomy. The course is directed at everyone interested in acquiring drawing skills in this field, and it is suitable for amateurs, talented individuals, painters, fashion designers, animators, storyboard artists, illustrators, and art college students in general.

Course Program

Learning the basics of drawing the face and its details (for beginners – using pencil and charcoal):

Learning the basic lines, parts, and proportions of the face.

Understanding and analyzing facial surfaces through shadow and light.

Detailed anatomy of facial parts (eyes, nose, mouth and chin, ears).

Drawing the face from different angles and directions.

Learning the basics of drawing the face and its details (for advanced learners – using acrylic colors):

Understanding and analyzing facial surfaces through shadow and light in color.

Detailed drawing of facial parts (eyes, nose, mouth and chin, ears) in color.

Drawing the face from different angles and directions in color.

Required Materials

For beginners:

Canson A3 sketchbook

Set of pencils

Charcoal pencils or sticks

Pastel colors

For advanced learners:

Canvas (stretcher) size 60×40 cm

Acrylic colors

Brushes

Opportunities

Participating in and attending meetings with artists through the forum's program "Dialogue with an Artist".

Participating in the forum's periodic exhibitions in Palestine and abroad.

Community participation in volunteer work using art (if desired).

Tuition Fees

700 Shekels for two months (all materials included)
