Appointment of Paolo Ghezzi as International Partnerships Officer at VAF

Paolo Ghezzi

(Bologna, 1980) is a visual artist and co-founder of the Bologna-based artistic duo Antonello Ghezzi, formed together with Nadia Antonello in 2009. Both trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, their practice sits at the intersection of art, science, technology and poetry, driven by a shared belief that art can bring to life what does not yet exist, but would be beautiful if it did.

Over the years, the duo has exhibited and collaborated with major institutions across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia, including the Moscow Biennial of Young Artists, the Sarajevo Winter Festival, the Sound Design Festival in Hamamatsu (Japan), and in many Italian Cultural Institutes in different cities like Madrid, Athens, Oslo, Santiago de Chile and Beirut. Their project "I am with you, I have always been with you, don't be afraid" — a monumental flag depicting the Milky Way as a symbol of our shared humanity — was awarded the PAC 2021 (Piano per l'Arte Contemporanea) by the Italian Ministry of Culture.

In 2024–2025, Paolo Ghezzi undertook an artist residency in Palestine, made possible by an award won by Antonello Ghezzi from the Anna Lindh Foundation, a Euro-Mediterranean intergovernmental institution dedicated to intercultural dialogue across 42 countries. During the residency, he built meaningful relationships and collaborations with local artists, cultural institutions and arts organisations, deepening his engagement with the Palestinian creative scene. He presented an exhibition at the Visual Arts Forum (VAF) in Ramallah and delivered a talk at Birzeit University, one of Palestine's most important academic and cultural institutions.

This experience led to a new chapter in his work: Paolo Ghezzi now serves as International Partnerships Officer at the Visual Arts Forum of Ramallah, supporting the organisation's international engagement, developing cultural partnerships and helping to connect Palestinian artists and institutions with the wider global arts community. A role that reflects his longstanding belief in art as a tool for dialogue, connection and shared humanity.
