Etching and Printing Workshop
Throughout the workshop, participants will go through an experimental journey in the foundations of Etching and printing based on creativity, experimentation, and individual expression. Participants will have the opportunity to explore different Etching and Printing techniques, and develop practical skills through guidance from the artist instructor, engaging in constructive critique sessions to enhance their skills and understanding of etching and printing.
Artist instructor: Majd Masri
Majd Masri was born in Jerusalem in 1991. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Najah University in 2013. Currently, Masri teaches art in different institutions in Palestine.
Masri won second place in Ismael Shamout Prize for visual art (2018) by Dar Al Kalima, Bethlehem. She participated in many workshops and group exhibitions locally in Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Birzeit. She also participated in several exhibitions abroad, including the Specters Commons exhibition in Bordeaux, France (2018), Haphazard Synchronizations” at the Mosaic Rooms, London (2017), and Supermarket Art Fair, Stockholm, Sweden (2016).

Workshop outline:
Session 1: Introduction to Etching and Printing
- Overview of etching and printing tools and materials.
- Demonstration of different etching and printing techniques and styles.
- Demonstration of linocut designs.
- Participants will brainstorm ideas for sketching their own drawings.
Session 2: Relief Etching
- In-depth discussion and demonstration of relief printing process.
- Introduction to cut and crave techniques.
- Participants will create their 1st basic cut design and carve them onto blocks of hard carton boards.
- Group critique and feedback session.
Session 3: Printing
- In-depth discussion and demonstration of relief printing process.
- Technique demonstration of coloring the craved-out designs (the relief).
- Participants will practice coloring their craved designs and print them out.
- Sketching drawings for the 2nd design.
Session 4: Etching and Printing project 2
- Etching/engraving the 2nd design onto blocks of hard foam.
- Color the engraved relief print (Black).
- Prepare the medium on which the design will be printed.
- Print the design using the required technique.
- Sketching drawings for the 2nd design out a new Creating.
Session 5: Etching and Printing project 3
- Creating the 3rd design with more details in the sketch.
- Etching/engraving the design onto blocks of hard foam.
- Color the engraved relief print (Blue).
- Prepare the medium on which the design will be printed.
- Print the design process.
Session 6: Etching and Printing project 4
- Creating the 4th design with more details in the sketch.
- Etching/engraving the design onto blocks of hard foam.
- Color the engraved relief print (Blue).
- Prepare the medium on which the design will be printed.
- Print the design using the required technique.
- Group critique and feedback session.
