Etching and Printing Workshop

Throughout the workshop, participants will go through an experimental journey in the foundations of Etching and printing based on creativity, experimentation, and individual expression. Participants will have the opportunity to explore different Etching and Printing techniques, and develop practical skills through guidance from the artist instructor, engaging in constructive critique sessions to enhance their skills and understanding of etching and printing.

Artist instructor: Majd Masri

Majd Masri was born in Jerusalem in 1991. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Najah University in 2013. Currently, Masri teaches art in different institutions in Palestine.

Masri won second place in Ismael Shamout Prize for visual art (2018) by Dar Al Kalima, Bethlehem. She participated in many workshops and group exhibitions locally in Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Birzeit. She also participated in several exhibitions abroad, including the Specters Commons exhibition in Bordeaux, France (2018), Haphazard Synchronizations” at the Mosaic Rooms, London (2017), and Supermarket Art Fair, Stockholm, Sweden (2016).

No. of sessions: 6 Sessions – 15 hours in total.

Days: Thursdays and Saturdays from 4:30 to 6:30/7:30 pm.

Dates: from 1/6/2024 to 22/6/2024

Workshop fees: 550 Shekel.

Workshop outline:

Session 1: Introduction to Etching and Printing

• Overview of etching and printing tools and materials.
• Demonstration of different etching and printing techniques and styles.
• Demonstration of linocut designs.
• Participants will brainstorm ideas for sketching their own drawings.

Session 2: Relief Etching

• In-depth discussion and demonstration of relief printing process.
• Introduction to cut and crave techniques.
• Participants will create their 1^st basic cut design and carve them onto blocks of hard carton boards.
• Group critique and feedback session.

Session 3: Printing

• In-depth discussion and demonstration of relief printing process.
• Technique demonstration of colouring the craved-out designs (the relief).
• Participants will practice colouring their craved designs and print them out.
• Sketching drawings for the 2^nd design.

Session 4: Etching and Printing project 2

• Etching/engraving the 2^nd design onto blocks of hard foam.
• Colour the engraved relief print (Black).
• Prepare the medium on which the design will be printed.
• Print the design using the required technique.
• Sketching drawings for the 2^nd design out a new Creating.

Session 5: Etching and Printing project 3

• Creating the 3^rd design with more details in the sketch.
• Etching/engraving the design onto blocks of hard foam.
• Colour the engraved relief print (Blue).
• Prepare the medium on which the design will be printed.
• Print the design process.

Session 6: Etching and Printing project 4

• Creating the 4^th design with more details in the sketch.
• Etching/engraving the design onto blocks of hard foam.
• Colour the engraved relief print (Blue).
• Prepare the medium on which the design will be printed.
• Print the design using the required technique.
• Group critique and feedback session.

انضموا إلينا في رحلة تجريبية في أساسيات الحفر والطباعة تعتمد على الإبداع والتجريب والتعبير الفردي. سيحظى المشاركون بفرصة استكشاف تقنيات مختلفة في الحفر وأساليب الطباعة، وتطوير المهارات العملية من خلال توجيهات الفنان المدرب.

عن المدرب/ة: مجد مصري

مجد مصري وُلدت في القدس في عام 1991. حصلت على درجة البكالوريوس في الفنون البصرية من جامعة النجاح الوطنية في عام 2013. حاليًا، تدرس مصري الفن في مؤسسات مختلفة في فلسطين.

فازت مصري بالمركز الثاني في جائزة إسماعيل شمعون للفنون البصرية (2018) التي نظمتها دار الكلمة، بيت لحم. شاركت في العديد من ورش العمل والمعارض الجماعية محليًا في رام الله، القدس، بيت لحم، وبيرزيت. كما شاركت أيضًا في عدة معارض خارج البلاد، بما في ذلك معرض "Specters Commons" في بوردو، فرنسا (2018)، "Haphazard Synchronizations" في غرف الفسيفساء، لندن (2017)، ومعرض Supermarket Art Fair في ستوكهولم، السويد (2016).

اللقاء الأولى: مقدمة في الحفر والطباعة

• نظرة عامة عن أدوات ومواد الحفر والطباعة.
• عرض لمختلف تقنيات وأنماط الحفر والطباعة.
• عرض لتصاميم اللينوكت.
• سيقوم المشاركون بوضع أفكار لتصميم رسوماتهم الخاصة بهم.

اللقاء الثانية: حفر النموذج

• مناقشة مفصلة وعرض لعملية الحفر.
• مقدمة في تقنيات التقطيع والحفر.
• سيقوم المشاركون بإنتاج تصميماتهم الأولى وحفرها على قطع من الورق المقوى الصلب.
• نقد جماعي وتقديم التغذية الراجعة.

اللقاء الثالثة: الطباعة

• مناقشة مفصلة وعرض لعملية الطباعة بالتسطيح.
• عرض تقنية تلوين التصاميم المنحوتة (التسطيح).
• سيقوم المشاركون بممارسة تلوين تصاميمهم المنحوتة وطباعتها.
• انتاج رسومات للتصميم الثاني.

اللقاء الرابعة: مشروع الحفر والطباعة الثاني

• حفر ونقش التصميم الثاني على قطع من الفلين الصلب Foam Board.
• تلوين التصاميم المنحوتة (بالأسود).
• إعداد المسطح الذي سيتم عليه طباعة التصميم.
• طباعة التصميم باستخدام التقنية المطلوبة.
• انتاج رسومات للتصميم الثالث.

اللقاء الخامسة: مشروع الحفر والطباعة الثالث

• انتاج التصميم الثالث بمزيد من التفاصيل في الرسم.
• حفر ونقش التصميم على قطع من الفلين الصلب.
• تلوين النقشة المنحوتة (الأزرق).
• إعداد المسطح الذي سيتم عليه طباعة التصميم.
• عملية طباعة التصميم.

اللقاء السادسة: مشروع الحفر والطباعة الرابع

• انتاج التصميم الرابع بمزيد من التفاصيل في الرسم.
• حفر ونقش التصميم على قطع من الفلين الصلب.
• تلوين القطعة المنحوتة (الاحمر).
• إعداد المسطح الذي سيتم عليه طباعة التصميم.
• طباعة التصميم باستخدام التقنية المطلوبة.
• نقد جماعي وتغذية راجعة.
